2O (95:5) (14 mL) and it was heated at 110°C for 45 min (GLC monitoring). Product 8 precipitated by the addition of water to the crude mixture. The filtered solid was washed with water and then it was taken in ethyl acetate. Insoluble 5b was filtered. The filtrate was dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate and the solvent was evaporated to give pure 8 (1.374 g, 100% yield). The catalyst 5b was washed successively with water, ethanol and diethyl ether, it was dried and reused in the next run.
