The coherent motion from quantum tunneling with a fixed number of phonons generates a polaron band with bandwidth that decreases exponentially with temperature-for temperature larger than the Debye scale. We do not attempt to identify this polaron band with the low-frequency absorption upturn. Certainly, other mechanisms have to be incorporated to fully deal with the low-energy IR absorption (see, for example, Refs.).
