Cytokinins play opposite roles in lateral root formation, and nematode and rhizobial symbioses

Evidence presented in this paper suggests that the traditional view of the role of cytokinins as promotors of cell division is not strictly followed in the root, and may have more to do with initiating and/or maintaining aspects of meristematic activity that are distinct from cytokinesis per se.

Horizontally transferred genes in plant-parasitic nematodes: A high-throughput genomic approach
-
A comparative genomics approach was employed that exploited the complete sequence of C. elegans and Drosophila to mine the tylenchid EST datasets. The genes that are identified reinforce the link between horizontal gene transfer and the evolution of parasitism in plant-parasitic nematodes.

Interactions between bacteria and plant-parasitic nematodes: Now and then
-
In the light of the hypothesis that horizontal gene transfer from bacteria has played a role in the evolution of parasitism in nematodes, this article reveals an extraordinary diversity of extant nematode-bacterial associations, suggesting ample opportunity for genetic exchange and implying potential mechanisms.
