    • Ishihara and Yamamoto et al. reported that hafnium and zirconium salts (0.10-1.0 mol%) are highly effective catalysts for the ester condensation reaction of carboxylic acids with equimolar amounts of alcohols. In their method, azeotropic reflux conditions with the removal of water are required to form the corresponding esters in excellent yield. (a) K. Ishihara, S. Ohara, and H.
