    • Thoreau's Body: Towards an Embodied Environmental History
    • October
    • Thoreau died of consumption, also known as tuberculosis, in 1862 at the age of 44. He contracted the disease in 1835 and some scholars speculate that he moved to Walden to avoid the dust in his father's pencil factory, thereby substituting an industrial space with a pastoral one to escape both kinds of consumption.
