35. n-i-p-i semiconductor structure consists of a series of alternating homogeneously doped n- and p-type semiconductor layers with undoped layers in between. In such a semiconductor superlattice system, the valence and conduction bands are curved because of space charge regions between the layers. This is a novel method for the band edge modulation of inorganic semiconductors. Conjugated polymers with alternation of strong donor and acceptor groups are considered as one-dimensional analogues of n-i-p-i semiconductor structures. For details, see ref 24.
