    • The x=0.21 sample [imaged in Figs. 4(a) and 4(b)] was melted using the optical floating zone method, then solidified. The melting temperature is greater then 1500 °C The x=0.23 sample [imaged in Fig. 4(c)] is a polycrystalline specimen prepared through conventional solid-sate reaction in air. The sample was sintered at 1400 °C for 48 h with intermediate grindings, followed by annealing in an oxygen environment. No melting or liquid phase was involved inthe preparation of the polycrystalline sample.
