    • In the calculations we used a 4-layer slab with 4 × 4 Cu atoms in each layer. The surface Brillouin zone was sampled using 3 × 3 k points. Only the Cu adatom was geometrically optimized Cu binds in the threefold hollow fee site [26] at a calculated distance of 1.86 Å outside the topmost surface layer.
