    • We emphasize that our objective here is to calculate the spin current carried by a quasiparticle in a plane-wave state: this is all one needs to calculate the spin current from the solution of the Landau-Silin transport equation. The delicate issue of the relation between the inhomogeneous plane-wave quasiparticle distribution function and quasiparticle wave packets is addressed in the following papers: O. Heinonen and W.
