A consideration of the space-filling representation showed that there is the lack of significant steric interactions within the dimer. it seems likely that the effectiveness of β-diketiminate ligands in both the stabilization of unique metal species and catalysis is due to a useful range of noncovalent interactions, in addition to the steric and electronic properties, provided by this class of ligands.
