    • The problematic issue of (re)presenting autobiographical accounts within research writing has been raised within literary, historical and sociological studies. While we recognise the problems raised our own approach has been to treat May's autobiography as a source of colonial discourse writing and as such, our interest in the text refers to the narrative procedures that he adopts rather than with the question of self-writing per se.
