    • Fluorescein maleimide was site-specifically labeled to the cysteine residue engineered at the end of the leucine zipper A (with a 14-amino acid linker between the zipper domain and the cysteine residue). Fluorescence is self-quenched in this labeled protein solution because of leucine zipper self-assembly. Mixing a labeled leucine zipper solution with an unlabeled leucine zipper solution in a stopped-flow spectrometer led to fluorescence de-quenching, suggesting the strand exchange among leucine zipper aggregates. Details will be reported separately.

    • 10 solutions (140 μM, pH 10.0) were filtered through 0.02 μM filters and subjected to dynamic light scattering measurements on BI-9000AT (Brookhaven) and WyattQELS (Wyatt Technology) digital autocorrelators. The data were analyzed with software (based on the CONTIN algorithm) provided by Brookhaven.
