J Clin Microbiol 2003; 41:3973-3977. An unusual isolate of B. pseudomallei was identified by an automated system and the patient's acute and convalescent sera were non-reactive against the conventional lipopolysaccharide of B. pseudomallei in the ELISA test. Its phenotypic characteristics and the sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene and groEL gene showed that the isolate was B. pseudomallei.
