    • Using a previously derived expression for the mean free path (λ) in organic molecules [P. Cumpson, Surf. Interface Anal. 31, 23 (2001)], we obtain λ=5 Å at a kinetic energy of 110 eV. This is in fact in good agreement with what is typically obtained from the general curve. The diameter of the dye molecule is about 10 Å. The substrate peak is damped to 11% of its initial intensity, giving an overlayer thickness of 11 A, i.e., very close to the size of the molecule.
