23. According to Reuters Business Insight on Healthcare, their report of the "Cancer Market Outlook to 2008" estimates the global cytotoxics market in 2002 at $8.9 billion. Sales in 2002 for Taxotere, as reported by Med. Ad. News in May 2003 in "The Top 400 Prescription Drugs" totaled ca. $1.192 billion. The same report showed 2002 sales of Taxol to be ca. $857 million. As explained in ref 13, the combined sales of the camptothecin analogues represent nearly $750 million. Thus, the total sales of taxol, docetaxel (Taxotere), and camptothecin analogues represent more than $2.75 billion, or about one-third of the global antineoplastic agent market.
