The tert-butyl-2-(4-methylphenyl)-2-butyl peroxide (7p) was chosen because, as compared to the ring-unsubstituted one, the presence of a methyl group ensured a significantly higher absorption at the laser excitation wavelength (266 nm). As discussed previously for cumyloxyl radicals (see ref 18), the reactivity should not be affected by the presence of the ring-substituent.
