    • According to the standards of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST): "a particle distribution may be considered monodisperse if at least 90% of the distribution lies within 5% of the median size" (Particle Size Characterization, Special Publication 960-961, January 2001). To determine the standard deviations, we fit the experimental histograms of the size of the particles with Gaussian distributions. The standard deviations were typically on the order of 1-2% of the mean size, complying with the NIST definition of monodispersity (95% of the particles are within two standard deviations of the mean size).
