Edge-magnetoplasmon collective excitations of 2D electron systems occur quite generally but, outside of the quantum-Hall regime, they have a rather short lifetime, and the excitation spectrum does not completely bosonize. In macroscopic systems they are generally strongly overdamped in strong magnetic fields, except near the filling factors at which the quantum-Hall effect occurs. For early theoretical studies, see A.
