    • Donepezil hydrochloride (brand name: Aricept), the number one prescribed Alzheimer's medication, is a clinically proven, well-tolerated, once-daily treatment for mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. An analysis of 671 patients, presented at the 14th annual meeting of the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry in 2001, indicated that persistent treatment with this drug may enable individuals to function at home for approximately 2 years longer than untreated patients. To obtain the best results, early intervention is indicated. In April of 2001, more than 1.4 million patients in the U.S. were being treated with this drug.
