Direct interaction and determination of binding domains among peroxisomal import factors in Arabidopsis thaliana
-
Nito K, Hayashi M, Nishimura M: Direct interaction and determination of binding domains among peroxisomal import factors in Arabidopsis thaliana. Plant Cell Physiol 2002, 43:355-366. The authors examined the protein-protein interactions of components that are involved in peroxisomal protein import using yeast two-hybrid and pull-down assays. The results indicated that AtPex14p can bind only AtPex5p, whereas AtPex5p also binds AtPex7p.

A role for peroxisomes in photomorphogenesis and development of Arabidopsis
-
Hu JP, Aguirre M, Peto C, Alonso J, Ecker J, Chory J: A role for peroxisomes in photomorphogenesis and development of Arabidopsis. Science 2002, 297:405-409. A mutation in the TED3 gene causes a dominant suppression of the phenotypes of the det1 mutant. The TED3 gene encodes a peroxisomal membrane protein, AtPex2p. The authors discuss the relationship between photomorphogenesis and peroxisomal functions, ted3 might be a gain-of-function mutation that causes det1 mutants to regain defective peroxisomes.

Hayashi M, Nito K, Takei-Hoshi R, Yagi M, Kondo M, Suenaga A, Yamaya T, Nishimura M: Ped3p is a peroxisomal ATP-binding cassette transporter that might supply substrates for fatty acid β-oxidation. Plant Cell Physiol 2002, 43:1-11. The PED3 gene encodes an ABC transporter that is integrated into the peroxisomal membrane. It imports fatty acid into the peroxisomal matrix. Although a single mutation in the PED3 gene does not cause a visible phenotype in the adult phase, the ped1 ped3 double mutant has abnormal leaves and inflorescences.

Characterization and cDNA-microarray expression analysis of 12-oxophytodienoate reductases reveals differential roles for octadecanoid biosynthesis in the local versus the systemic wound response
-
Strassner J, Schaller F, Frick UB, Howe GA, Weiler EW, Amrhein N, Macheroux P, Schaller A: Characterization and cDNA-microarray expression analysis of 12-oxophytodienoate reductases reveals differential roles for octadecanoid biosynthesis in the local versus the systemic wound response. Plant J 2002, 32:585-601. The authors determined the peroxisomal localization of the 12-oxophytodienoate reductase OPR3. The upregulation of OPR3 after wounding has induction kinetics that resemble those of other octadecanoid pathway enzymes.
