The following assumptions about the future course of events are made before the labor force projections are carried out: The current definition of the labor force will remain the same over the projection period. Work patterns will not change significantly during the projection period. No major war or social upheaval will occur during the projection period. Laws and legislation will not change the conditions under which individuals decide to enter or stay out of the labor force. The general structure of economic relationships in the future will be roughly identical to those in the past, and economic condition will follow the basic trends of the post-World War II era.
