    • The intensity of the C exciton in spectra shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is inoreased because the sample has been rotated by 60° relative to the usual perpendicular to the incident beam orientation. It is low in spectra shown in Fig. 3 because these spectra have been measured with E⊥c, i.e., the sample has not been rotated. Exciton C is due to transitions from the crystal-field split component of the valence band to the conduction band, which accounts for the observed dependence of its intensity on orientation of the sample relative to the beam of light.
