note
-
A special case of Eq. (4) for the situation where the potential is symmetric about the midpoint of the well between the two barriers is given by Bohm [14]. Equation (4) reduces to 12.63 in the symmetric case.

note
-
If the intervening well is taken to be a constant potential (i.e., a square well) instead of a parabolic well, the position of the observed resonance shifts by less than 20%.

note
-
The resonance predicted by the WKB double-barrier penetration model is somewhat broader than observed experimentally [4]. The width of the resonant peaks depends on the height and thickness of the potential barriers. In addition to the intrinsic barriers discussed here, which result from the details of the junction molecule's electronic structure, there is almost certainly a contribution to the heights of the barriers from the spatial separation of the molecule from the electrodes. Consequently, the barrier heights employed here are a lower limit on the actual barrier heights. With higher barriers, the resonant peaks in the transmissivity curve will be much sharper.
