    • This observation is also compatible with a 90° rotation of the director. However, this is very unlikely since it would imply major reorganization of the framework. Also, no change of orientation of the director has ever been observed, even on samples in which the ribbons were only partially removed.

    • Lots of efforts have been put in trying to directly observe the pores by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). These efforts were hindered by the lack of positional order of the pores, which is intrinsic to the nematic order. In that respect, these samples are different from usual mesoporous materials which show good positional as well as orientational ordering.
