    • During anodization, the pitting, or the formation of the pores, preferentially initiated in the direction perpendicular to the crystal facet of aluminium and penetrated the thin barrier layer formed in the beginning stage. With the progressing of anodization, the pores developed gradually following the applied electrical field, that is, perpendicular to the substrate.
