11. General procedure for the preparation of zwitterionic compounds 2 and 3: A solution of 0.5 g (1.52 mmol) 1 and 3.04 mmol of the corresponding diamine in toluene was heated for 5 min. Cooling the mixture yielded colorless crystals, which were purified by recrystallization from ethanol.
