    • Frequently, the decelerating effect of the alkoxy group may be suspended owing to the engagement of the ligating oxygen atom in a conformationally rigid heterocycle in the backbone of the ligand. A prominent example is DIOP (H. B. Kagan, T.-P. Dang, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1972, 94, 6429-6433). Relevant rhodium catalysts exhibit extremely high hydrogenation activities for the substrates considered herein.

    • [t is interesting to note that Rh-N interactions in 1,2-dipyridyl-substituted 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)ethane metal complexes are also dependent on the relative stereochemistry of both pyridyl groups. While the interaction has been found with the erythro ligand, no Rh-N contact occurred in case of the threo ligand. J. L. Bookham, D. M. Smithies, M. T. Pett, J. Chem.
