Several attempts were made to synthesize the copper chelate in the pores of the zeolite host. For example, the zeolite was first exchanged with copper after which the ligands were introduced. Also, solutions of copper as well as the ligands were added to the zeolite in different orders, however all attempts for an inclusion synthesis failed.

4 in ethanol. After exchange with the zeolite, the wash was carefully collected and the remaining amount of the dye was determined using visible spectroscopy and A = εlC. Details of the spatial distribution of the intrazeolite dye are not known, but it is assumed that the long ion exchange period leads to a fairly homogeneous population.

To study this interaction of the complex with the zeolite after introduction of various analytes, EPR spectra were recorded on the same samples of which visible spectra were taken.
