    • We assumed g(E) = 1 even for the low energy region (≤16 eV), though the deposition yield there is only about 1/3 of that in the high-energy region (≤90 eV). This difference in the deposition yield is probably due to evaporation of the deposited clusters driven by the impact heating (Ref. 14). The atoms, the small clusters or both leaving from the substrate would interact with surface atoms for a period much longer than the time scale of electron transfer, and hence be neutralized. Thus, g(E) = 1 would be a reasonable assumption for the calculation of the ion scattering yield.

    • +(n = 1 - 5) with Ag surface (Ref. 38). Their method seems appropriate for the case that ions are completely neutralized at positions far from the surface. However, the increasing ion-scattering yield with cluster size in the present experiment seems inconsistent with their treatment.
