    • Cytokinin activation of Arabidopsis cell division through a D-type cyclin
    • This paper shows for the first time that the effect of cytokinin (a plant hormone) on cell division rate may be mediated through activation of cyclin CycD3 at the G1→S transition. Exogenous application of cytokinin induces cycD3 expression and constitutive expression of cycD3 renders callus growth independent of cytokinin.

    • The mitotic inhibitor ccs52 is required for endoreduplication and ploidy-dependent cell enlargement in plants
    • Based on comparisons with the function of a related gene in Drosophila, ccs52 is thought to induce mitotic cyclin proteolysis in plants thereby reducing the cell cycle to a mere G1→S→G2 endocycle. Down-regulation of ccs52 (a plant fizzy-related gene) represses the endocycle and leads to smaller cells and thus might be a means to control endoreduplication and hence cell size.
