Ring closing metathesis reactions using the supported catalyst 4 (in an Irori minikan) and underivatised vinyl functionalised polystyrene (in a separate minikan) showed the metallocarbene is released into the solution phase during metathesis reactions and scavenged afterwards (the "boomerang effect").
