    • Surface-induced phase behavior of alkyltrimethylammonium bromide surfactants adsorbed to mica, silica, and graphite
    • •This paper deals with the properties of adsorbed cationic surfactant layers below and above the bulk Krafft temperature. The study does not reveal large differences in the layer morphology in the temperature interval studied, but the adsorbed surfactant films seem to be substantially tougher (i.e. resisting higher normal force loads) below compared to above the Krafft temperature

    • In situ AFM observation of heterogenous growth of adsorbed film on cleaved mica surface
    • •This letter shows the potential of using AFM for following the structural evolution at interfaces during slow adsorption processes. Time resolved images of the adsorption of a cationic surfactant on mica show the successive growth with time from micellar like aggregates to a complete bilayer. The driving force appears to be the two-dimensional Laplace pressure (i.e. a two-dimensional analogue to the Oswald ripening process) possibly assisted by line tension

    • Calorimetric evidence of the formation of half-cylindrical aggregates of a cationic surfactant at the graphite/water interface
    • •In this paper, both calorimetric enthalpies and the adsorption isotherm have been measured for a cationic surfactant on graphite. The paper provides thermodynamic analysis to support the observed hemicylinders of cationic surfactant adsorbed on graphite at higher concentrations, and monolayers lying parallel to the interface at lower concentrations. This article discusses in detail the mechanistic origin of the adsorption in the different concentration regimes
