When co-expressed with the two previously cloned subunits [21-24], the third olfactory channel subunit induces an increase in cAMP sensitivity.

J Neurosci 1999, 19:5332-5347. The authors compare the single-channel properties of native rat olfactory CNG channels excised from the soma or dendrite of olfactory neurons with the properties of channels formed from all possible combinations of the three cloned subunits expressed in HEK 293 cells. Their analysis indicates that native channels are composed of the three types of subunits.
