The sequence of spacers between the consensus sequences modulates the strength of prokaryotic promoters
-
Jensen PR, Hammer K: The sequence of spacers between the consensus sequences modulates the strength of prokaryotic promoters. Appl Environ Microbiol 1998, 63:82-87. This paper describes the development of a large set of synthetic promoters for L. lactis that differ more than 1000-fold in efficiency. This approach, which is based on conserving consensus sequences and randomizing spacers, may be useful in many lactic acid bacteria.
