Obstructive lung disease deaths in the United States from 1979 through 1993
-
Mannino DM, Brown C, Giovino GA: Obstructive lung disease deaths in the United States from 1979 through 1993. Am J Respir Crit Care Med 1997, 156:814-818. An analysis using Multiple-Cause Mortality Files to describe national trends in deaths related to obstructive lung diseases over this 15-year period, because previous studies using only underlying cause of death data likely underestimated these figures. Mortality patterns varied by gender, race, and age, but overall, the age-adjusted mortality rate associated with COPD increased by 17.1% for men and 126.1% for women during this period.
