Estimation of the incidence of Lyme disease
-
6 Campbell GL, Fritz CL, Fish D, Nowakowski J, Nadelman RB, Wormser GP: Estimation of the incidence of Lyme disease. Am J Epidemiology 1998, 148:1018-1026. The authors developed a model to estimate the frequency of Ixodes scapularis tick bites and the incidence of Lyme disease in endemic areas. They then applied it to a highly endemic area and concluded that the current method of passive surveillance underestimates the incidence of LD by severalfold.

Identification of lfa-1 as a candidate autoantigen in treatment-resistant Lyme arthritis
-
46 Gross DM, Forsthuber T, Tary-Lehmann M, Etling C, Ito K, Nagy ZA, Field JA, Steere AC, Huber BT: Identification of LFA-1 as a candidate autoantigen in treatment-resistant Lyme arthritis. Science 1998, 281:703-706. A dominant epitope o OspA for T helper cells cross reacted with an amino acid sequence on human leudocyte function-associated antigen-1 (hLFA-1) and provided supportive evidence that an autoimmune process is responsible for chronic Lyme arthritis.
