Brachyury-downstream notochord differentiation in the ascidian embryo
-
The authors of this paper describe a method for the isolation and characterization of target genes of the ascidian Brachyury (namely Ci-Bra). 501 independent cDNA clones were isolated and 38 were specifically expressed in notochord cells. These genes which are potentially downstream of Ci-Bra appear to encode a broad spectrum of divergent proteins associated with the notochord formation.

A multigene locus containing the Manx and bobcat genes is required for development of chordate features in the ascidian tadpole larva

This report describes the presence of a multigene locus that contains the Manx and bobcat genes. The Manx gene contains nine exons, and within the first intron of Manx is embedded the coding region of bobcat. Both are expressed coordinately and are required for development of tadpole-type larval features.
