Relationship of adipose tissue cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) mRNA to plasma concentrations of CETP in man
-
Radeau T, Robb M, Lau P, Borthwick J, McPherson R. Relationship of adipose tissue cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) mRNA to plasma concentrations of CETP in man. Atherosclerosis 1998; 139:369-376. This article provides strong evidence for the coupling of adipose tissue CETP synthesis and circulating CETP concentrations. Although the quantitative importance of fat tissue to plasma CETP remains to be determined, adipose tissue CETP expression mirrors closely changes in the plasma pool.

Lipid transfer inhibitor protein defines the participation of lipoproteins in lipid transfer reactions: CETP has no preference for cholesteryl esters in HDL versus LDL
-
Serdyuk AP, Morton RE. Lipid transfer inhibitor protein defines the participation of lipoproteins in lipid transfer reactions: CETP has no preference for cholesteryl esters in HDL versus LDL. Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol 1999; 19:718-726. This study addresses the preference of CETP for LDL and HDL as substrates for lipid transfer reactions. In contrast to previous studies, these lipoproteins were shown to have equivalent capacity to donate lipids to CETP. The importance of LTIP in augmenting transfer with HDL in vivo is supported by these studies.

Cholesteryl ester transfer protein reaction between plasma lipoproteins
-
Main LA, Okumura-Noji K, Ohnishi T, Yokoyama S. Cholesteryl ester transfer protein reaction between plasma lipoproteins. J Biochem (Tokyo) 1998; 124:237-243. This study offers interesting insight into the importance of CETP binding to lipoproteins and CETP activity. The role of stable, non-steady state binding of CETP to lipoproteins in lipid transfer processes is seriously questioned.

Suppression of lipid transfer inhibitor protein activity by oleats-a novel mechanism of cholesteryl ester transfer protein regulation by plasma free fatty acids
-
Morton RE, Greene DJ. Suppression of lipid transfer inhibitor protein activity by oleats-a novel mechanism of cholesteryl ester transfer protein regulation by plasma free fatty acids. Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol 1997; 17:3041-3048. This study illustrates the exquisite sensitivity of CETP and LTIP to elevated free fatty acid content. Evidence that LTIP activity is suppressed by very low free fatty acids suggests that the activity of this protein may be modulated during the course of normal post-prandiol metabolism.
