Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol 1999; 19:718-726. This study addresses the preference of CETP for LDL and HDL as substrates for lipid transfer reactions. In contrast to previous studies, these lipoproteins were shown to have equivalent capacity to donate lipids to CETP. The importance of LTIP in augmenting transfer with HDL in vivo is supported by these studies.

This study offers interesting insight into the importance of CETP binding to lipoproteins and CETP activity. The role of stable, non-steady state binding of CETP to lipoproteins in lipid transfer processes is seriously questioned.

Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol 1997; 17:3041-3048. This study illustrates the exquisite sensitivity of CETP and LTIP to elevated free fatty acid content. Evidence that LTIP activity is suppressed by very low free fatty acids suggests that the activity of this protein may be modulated during the course of normal post-prandiol metabolism.
