Helicobacter pylori: prevalence, transmission, and serum pepsinogen II concentrations in children of a poor periurban community in Bangladesh. Clin Infect Dis 1997; 25:990-995. 13C-carbon urea breath test for the noninvasive detection of Helicobacter pylori in children: Comparison with culture and determination of minimum analysis requirements
-
13C-carbon urea breath test for the noninvasive detection of Helicobacter pylori in children: comparison with culture and determination of minimum analysis requirements. J Pediatr Gastroenterol Nutr 1998; 26:291-296. High sensitivity and specificity of the urea breath test were shown, when the test was applied after an overnight fast and citric acid was given to delay gastric emptying.

Carbon 13-labeled urea breath test for the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection in children
-
Rowland M, Lambert I, Gormally S, Daly LE, Thomas JE, Hetherington C et al. Carbon 13-labeled urea breath test for the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection in children [see comment]. J Pediatr 1997; 131:815-820. When the urea breath test was performed after overnight fast, tracer application with glucose polymer solution gave excellent results. A meal before testing decreased the discrimination between infected and non-infected children.

One week treatment for Helicobacter pylori infection
-
Walsh D, Goggin N, Rowland M, Durnin M, Moriatry S, Drumm B. One week treatment for Helicobacter pylori infection. Arch Dis Child 1997; 76:352-355. One week therapy with colloidal bismuth subcitrate, metronidazole and clarithromycin cleared the infection in 21 out of 22 children. The drugs of the complicated regime were dispensed in a 'Redidose' box to optimize compliance.
