The thought processes sketched in this paragraph also take place in reverse. Representatives of the religious right in the USA typically move from denouncing the relativism of the contemporary age to espousing some incredibly simplistic 'basic moral truths', and declaring these alleged truths to be universally applicable, without the need for interpretation - thus neatly sidestepping the need for individuals to think for themselves.

note
-
Nor, of course, is it obvious that people are wrong to seek medical advice whenever their ill health is determined by social factors. Believing that there is a work or environment-related cause for one's condition does not exclude the possibility of having a medically treatable illness.
