Nosocomial Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia among nasal carriers of methicillin-resistant and methicillin-susceptible strains
-
Pugol M, Pena C, Pallares R, Ariza J, Ayats J, Dominguez MA, Gudiol F: •• Nosocomial Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia among nasal carriers of methicillin-resistant and methicillin-susceptible strains Am J Med 1996, 100:509-516. S. aureus bacteremia in the ICU was linked to S. aureus nasal carriage. Furthermore, MRSA carriage was a notable risk factor (more so than MSSA carriage) in subsequent MRSA bacteremia in the ICU.

Am J Respir Crit Care Med 1996, 154:394-399. Sixty patients were randomized to two regimens of delivering enterai feeding to ICU patients on mechanical ventilation: intermittent versus continuous enteral feeding. Gastric colonization by bacteria was promoted by either type of enterai feeding. Intermittent proved not to be superior to continuous feeding.
