The molecular basis of focal cyst formation in human autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease type I
-
Qian F, Watnick TJ, Onuchic LF, Germino GG: The molecular basis of focal cyst formation in human autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease type I. Cell 1996, 87:979-987. This very important paper demonstrates loss of heterozygosity in renal epithelial cells derived from ADPKD cysts. The authors suggest an important model for cystogenesis in which cysts arise from cells in which allelic inactivation of the normal copy of PKD1 occurs.
