In a typical experiment, a mixture of the diazo compound (300 μmol), the Rh(II) catalyst (1 mg) and the dipolarophile (330 μmol) in 8 mL of benzene was heated at reflux until TLC indicated complete conversion of the starting imide 1 (ca. 1 h). The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the product ratio was determined by quantitative NMR analysis.
