A probe from the Phl locus of Pseudomonas strain Q2-87 is shown to hybridize with genomic DNA of all of 45 Phl-producing Pseudomonas isolates from disease-suppressive soils in the USA, Switzerland, Italy, and Ghana. The strains are heterogeneous genotypically and phenotypically, but similar strains do occur in different locations.
