    • The insoluble residual sample from the functionalization reaction contains primarily pristine nanotubes as in the starting material. This is not surprising considering the fact that the functionalization reaction is heterogeneous in nature. Some of the nanotubes in the residual sample are probably attached with a few functional groups, but the functionalization may be insufficient to solubilize these nanotubes.
