To a stirred solution of the corresponding o-nitrobenzaldehydes (2 mmol) and ethyl acrylate (0.6 mL) was added DABCO (225 mg. 0.2 mmol), and the solution was stirred at room temperature for 3 days. After the usual workup, pure products 1a-e were obtained by column chromatography on silica gel (hexane/ether, 7:3).
