With ∼800 nitrogen atoms per molecule of BSA, 100 pmol of nitrogen is equivalent to ∼125 fmol (10 ng) of protein. This sensitivity with protein permits the quantitation of a protein at the femtomole or nanogram level without the need of an extinction coefficient.
