    • In carbene-transition metal complexes the strength of the transition metal ? carbene p back-donation strongly depends on the nature of the substituents R of the carbene CR2. Recent theoretical studies suggest that the p back-donation to NHC ligands may be stronger than generally assumed but that in some cases there might even be p donation from the NHC ligand to the metal
