17. [17] Hospitals either reported the average age and BMI data for the hospital on average or separately for each of the orthopaedic surgeons that were participating in the study at that hospital. In the latter case we average the values across the surgeons at each hospital to come up with a hospital average. The standard deviation of the average age across hospitals was 2.3 years and the standard deviation of the average BMI was 2.3.
