    • her book Media and Crime, and in Chapter 5 entitled ‘Media misogyny: monstrous women’, Yvonne Jewkes gives a useful overview of psychosocial and feminist approaches to understanding mediated accounts of seriously violent female offenders. She usefully offers eight standard narratives used by the media to construct women who commit very serious crimes. These are given the following labels: sexuality and sexual deviance, (absence of) physical attractiveness, bad wives, bad mothers, mythical monsters, mad cows, evil manipulators and finally, non-agents
